Nokia mobile phone is messed up?!?

my nokia 6288, with 3 mobile, is refusing to be compliant. for some reason, it is showing that i have the headphones plugged in when i don't. consequently, i can only talk on the phone on loudspeaker; most inconvenient in public places etc. how do i make it normal again????
