Friends x girlfriend? help?

my old friend broke up wit his gf of 1 year a few months ago, i recenty txted her to make sure she was doing ok. ever since then shes been puting off that she likes me. i do like her but how long should i wait to date her ? me and my friend kinda went our own way so idk how long i should wait to date her. i dont think im a rebound but i just need some advice thanks
