Why Is There A War B/W Twilight & Harry Potter?

The only reason they have been compared is because Meyer is probably the only author who has had a remotely comparable level of success since J. K. Rowling. Readers seem to think that success = quality, which is clearly not the case, since Twilight utterly fails and Harry Potter - which, while good, is not the most amazing book ever - absolutely owns it in every single area that actually matters - plot, characters, style, originality etc.
